José Bubis

Dr Bubis was born in Valencia on September 17th, 1957. BS on the field of Chemistry from Simón Bolívar University (1980). Obtained his PhD on Biochemistry in 1987 at University of California, San Diego, La Jolla, US. During his postgraduate studies was awarded recognition as Foreign Student of the Year on his prominent research work as well as Best Doctorate Thesis on Biochemistry. Worked as a postgraduate intern with Nobel Prize winner Dr. G. Khorana at the Technology Institute of Massachussets. At present, Dr. Bubis is teaching at the Cellular Biology Department at Simón Bolívar University.

The field of expertise of Dr. Bubis is the biochemical and functional characterization of proteins that are involved within the visual process; more specifically the study of kinase proteins which depend on the cyclic PKA and the interaction between Rhodopsin and transducine proteins. Another field of investigation developed by Dr. Bubis is the antigenic characterization of a diverse species of Trypanosomes for diagnosis.

Author of 38 articles published in prestigious international magazines as well as 5 chapters for books. In addition, Dr. Bubis has directed 19 BS theses and other 8 for postgraduate. In 2000, Dr. Bubis was awarded the third class “July 18th Order” by the Board of Directors (?) of Simón Bolívar University. Appointed member of the System for Promoting Investigations, level III.
